Each time has only been for a few weeks but I have had not contact with English in that time. That's why I am a strong proponent of classes. I have experienced these periods when I have to struggle only in Italian and I am fairly advanced although not perfect by any means. It does become very tiring however and you long to hear your own language. This article is interesting to me because my daughter, who is herself a French teacher in the States, is married to an Italian. They have a three year old who is in day care in English. Her father speaks only Italian to her and she certainly understands it but only speaks in English. I am hoping for a totally bilingual granddaughter and am watching the process with interest.
