File sharing legal in canada

A federal jury in Duluth, Minn., United States ordered Jammie Thomas of Minneapolis to pay $222,000 to six recording companies for illegally downloading and sharing 24 music files with others over a Kazaa file-sharing network. These 24 music files were in her computer’s Kazaa shared folder and shared to others.
But according to this CNET article it is not illegal in Canada to share files over P2P networks.

Interesting article on a very complicated, controversial subject. Putting aside the question of legality, do you think it is right to download copyrighted material? Do you think copyrights are inappropriate for just software and electronic commodities? Or do you oppose copyrights for all products and creations? If so, how do you reconcile your scepticism toward copyrights with your desire to make money?
    Consider me curious.

Downloading creative materials without any compensation for the author or publisher can’t justified by any reasons.
